Dear Freshman Alvin,

Dear Freshman Me,

You probably think college is going to be the best time of your life, and you’re right to an extent, but right in the wrong way. I can tell you what college isn’t going to be. It’s without a doubt NOT going to be one big Panama City Spring Break party; you truly have to work for your grades, positive relationships, and personal growth.

Remember, when you left your dishes in the sink and they magically turned up clean the next time you used them? Yeah, stuff like that doesn’t happen in college. Think about how clean your room was when you thought you were the one doing the upkeep and then just believe me when I tell you that you’re exponentially messier and dirtier than that. For some illogical reason, you believe that you’re the best roommate ever, but in all honesty you haven’t got the slightest clue about what being a good roomie entails. Start by communicating expectations and doing stuff around the house that you don’t think are your responsibility. Oh yeah and do that minus the attitude.

For “future” reference, stick to some key principles: Sincerity, Hard Work, and a Positive Mindset.

Sincerely, future Alvin.
